Beavers on the Loose

One house that I know of has Badgers on the Loose.

Our house, however, is infested with an altogether different animal: Beavers.

Observe a piece of evidence:

Note the crib rail…my beautiful, beautiful crib rail.

We decided that something must be done, and that perhaps the best way to fend off the toothy little critters would be to purchase some of these. So we did.

They didn’t fit on our crib rail.

Back to Babies R Us we went (a few weeks later, of course – after the damage to the crib rail took a drastic and sudden turn for the worse), where we got one of these. Much to our delight, it fit!

That was 2 nights ago.

Tonight I was out, and when I returned home I received this brief email message from my husband:

“W. chewed thru the gummy rail already.”

These beavers are relentless!

We are at a loss. Does anyone have any good suggestions for stopping these little critters? We are taking a look at one of these — has anyone used one before?

And while we’re at it, does anyone know of a good way to repair beaver damage on board books and onesies? We are open to suggestions.

These beavers are pesky, I tell ya…but they sure are cute. πŸ™‚

oh my goodness those pesky beavers! I can say that after 2 boys…i have NEVER had that problem. Your board books are done for, sorry to say, ours fell apart from the St. Bernard known as baby Logan, and there is no saving those. And onesies? no hope there, except to get one of those teething bibs and make him wear it all the time! Haha! For the crib, i would try that cloth one, or attach lots of teething rings to the crib. We always leave Logan somethings in his crib that he CAN chew on. Good Luck!

  2. Hi Nik!

First, that picture of Will in his highchair is ADORABLE. πŸ™‚

I can’t believe Will chewed through the cover that you put up! That is one determined boy! Maybe he’s eager for fiber and REALLY needs some of his crib to tide him over! πŸ™‚ My guess is that you’ll continue to see his ‘determined’ side as he continues to grow, too — a fantastic quality to have! Determination and Perseverance!

I wonder if there’s a way you could get a piece of fabric and somewhow tie it around the top of the crib where he’s been chewing? I don’t know if that would work…..??? My guess is that the books are probably “shot” …. πŸ™‚ Maybe a teething toy/ring would give him satisfaction? — or maybe you’ve tried that!! πŸ™‚

    Will’s so cute!

  3. A different perspective….

We still have my crib from 45 years ago and one of neatest things about it are the teeth marks on the rail….

  4. Our crib came with plastic coverings over the rails (I never knew WHY until just now!)… so unfortunately I have no remedies to share on that issue. With board books, I keep them in a basket out of the boys’ reach (in the middle of the coffee table) — so we can read them together, and then stash them away when we’re done. Of course, there are occasions when the “beaver” finds a book — so we use packaging tape to strap them back together — if they’re salvageable. πŸ™‚

    Good luck! πŸ™‚
